Welcome to Day 1 of the #RRBC March Spotlight #Author Tour for @JoyGerken! @RRBC_Org #RRBCSA @NonnieJules

March is WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH and although today is the 7th day of the month, I’d like to kick this wonderful time off by introducing you to a woman whose history is rich.

Welcome to Day 1 of the RRBC MARCH “SPOTLIGHT” Author Tour!  I am honored to introduce you to Author, Joy M. Lilley, who I don’t believe has ever graced us with her presence here before.  I could be wrong, but I think I’m right.

Joy is sharing her re-released title, FIGS, VINES & ROSES with us.  Please, grab your copy today and support Joy along her tour!

Figs, Vines & Roses by Joy M. Lilley

Chapter 1 Snippet:

As she stood in between the wooden pews of the little country church in Hagley, deep in the heart of the Black Country, Isabella thought back on her childhood years as she looked up at the beautiful stained-glass windows. The year was 1898 and she began to recall all that had happened down through the years, which was connected to this place, the focus of the community. She remembered a comfortable and cheerful childhood, especially the years before she was sent away to boarding school in Oxford.

Isabella, affectionately known as ‘Issy,’ now eighteen years old, had become the most beautiful, tall, blond, and fair-skinned, marriageable girl in the forty-mile radius she frequented. Standing, quiet and alone, her thoughts returned to the long, sizzling summer days when she and her brother, Clarence, would play for hours on end, never wanting to return home until after dark.

The church stood about three quarters of a mile from Cobnut Hall, where she and her brother lived with their parents, Ralph, and Agnes. This place was where their Sunday mornings and occasional evenings were spent worshipping the Lord. It was the place where all the family enjoyed celebratory occasions. It was the venue of sad events, as well.

The memories that had come from that church were endless. It was where her mother and father had married; where she and her brother were christened; where her mother and grandmother taught her to arrange the church flowers, and when she was sixteen, it was there that her beloved grandmother had been laid to rest.

Now, Isabella and her family were planning their move to the South of England. She and her mother had spent the best part of the bitterly cold winter, trying to find a suitable home for them to live in.  Of all the winters she had ever experienced, she had never known one that had wreaked so much havoc upon the land and the people. The days seemed to go on forever with no sun appearing at all. Isabella recalled everything being grey, wet, muddy, and chaotic.

Joy Gerken

My pen name is Joy M. Lilley (aka Joy Gerken).  I am a writer and have been writing seriously since 2011 with seven books published to date. My previous career was as a trained nurse [R.G.N.] which I loved but it offered little time for me to write until my retirement.

I joined Rave Reviews Book Club (RRBC) almost 6 years ago and have been amazed by the friendship and support offered by all.

FIGS, VINES & ROSES was the first novel produced by me. I paid a considerable sum to have it edited at the time. This proved not to be adequate for a number of reasons.  Several folks in RRBC commented about the need for further editing, and when that number reached three people, I felt it necessary to do something about it.

It was recently re-edited by 4WillsPublishing.  They kindly offered to help me with the extra work at zero cost.  It’s been re-released on Amazon in Kindle and paperback formats. If you took a stab at the first version, I would appreciate it if you would reach out to Amazon for the updated version and give it another go.

I promote my work via Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. I also pay for promotion. I am ever grateful for the amazing support given by the members of RRBC.

I enjoy audio recording short stories on my advanced home equipment, and I now offer voice-over work through Fiverr.

  7. Hello Joy! You are actually in the minority of authors who actually do move on the recommendations of your readers to pull your book down and ‘fix’ it and then republish. Kudos for doing so. 4WillsPublishing is a top-notch company to work with; I find them extremely friendly, professional, and customer-oriented. Congratulations on your tour, Joy! I wish you great success! Thank you, Nonnie, for hosting another of our great authors on your website.
