I only wrote and published one book: Kellcey. ATM I’m working on my thesis, but I will hopefully write and publish more books later. NJ:  Hi, Kacey!  Is your author name a pen name or your birth name?

Kacey:  Kacey Kells is my birth name

NJ:  How long have you been writing?

Kacey:  The difficulty was to start writing; then everything came ‘naturally’ since it was initially not supposed to be published.

NJ:  What genre or genres do you write under?

Kacey:  Kellcey is a memoir, but I think my genre is/will be to write to fight gender (and all sort of) discrimination. Maybe will it take the form of a romance or a fiction…. But the idea is to promote women empowerment for a better society.

NJ:  Are you indie-published or traditionally published?

Kacey:  Kellcey was first published by Olympia Publishers (under the initiative of a relative). It is now Indie published, directly / Amazon 

NJ:  Can you give our audience a pointer or two as to how you found a publisher, in the event that someone reading this interview is attempting to go the traditionally published route. By the way, I am a strong advocate for Indie publishing and would not have it any other way. 

Kacey:  What I can say here is that I didn’t like the first experience, and that I am entirely satisfied as an Indie author

NJ:  Well, good for you, Kacey!  Indie all the way!  Would you give us just a little background on that book. What is it about?

Kacey:  It’s about something that sadly happens way too often, to way too many girls and women: sexual abuse (rape), and more importantly, the aftermath. Because if being a victim of rape is a tragedy, the worst comes after and might destroy a victim’s life.

NJ:  WOW! That sounds like a really good read.  Kacey, I have been in this business long enough to know that quite a few readers have a purchase price point and will only spend so much on an e-book. How do you price your books and what is your logic behind the pricing? 

Kacey:  Well  I had no real experience; my objectives were to make this book accessible, without giving the idea that it is too cheap.

NJ:  I got on Twitter many years ago because my social media manager at the time, told me that I needed to be on Twitter. He did not give me an actual reason as to why (I had to learn my “why” on my own), just that I needed to be there.  What was your main reason for getting on Twitter?  For support? For fun?

Kacey:  It’s a fabulous experience! First and foremost, social media are almost the only way for an indie author to let the people know about their work, and to promote it. But it’s also way more than that: I met lots of fabulous people there (it’s very important for someone like me who’s kind of… shy  and who fears direct contact). The #WritingCommunity is wonderful; there are so many extremely kind and supportive people! I love it, and I love them; they’re very precious to me.

NJ:  What other social media platforms do you use to market your book(s), and have you found them to be beneficial?

Kacey:  Facebook, Pinterest, rarely Instagram

NJ:  Supporting others is a huge part of my identity. I believe that when you invest your time and support in others, you find that your circle grows by leaps and bounds of others giving the same to you. When I first got involved heavily on Twitter, I was pushing others more than I was pushing myself – I continue to do so. Do you support others on social media?  If so, how?

Kacey:  Every day! I constantly RT friends and newbies; You cannot ask people to support you if you support people. And it’s lots of fun too!

NJ:  Do you actually take the time to read tweets from others before you retweet them, or do you just hit “retweet” without ever engaging in the tweet?

Kacey:  I read tweets before I RT them! I wouldn’t like to RT something I disagree with, or worse.

NJ:  If you could map out the perfect way that you would want others to support you on social media, how would you ask your followers to support you? Just imagine that everyone who reads this interview will run out and follow you.  How could they best support you?  What would you have them do?

Kacey:  The first and most important thing is love! I mean, I’m not naïve; there’s nothing naïve in love! How can you support someone if you don’t like or love her/him and what she/he does?

NJ:  Authors are always seeking good formatting services. Who do you use to format your books, and would you recommend them?

Kacey:  I was lucky enough to know someone who is a university professor and who has a real experience in formatting books. And since he’s one of my mom’s very close relatives….

NJ:  What is the one bit of writing advice you would give to any author, experienced or newbie?

Kacey:  Believe in what you’re doing! Your book(s) come from your heart and your brain… it’s a part of you Love it (them) and fight for it (them) as if was (they were) your child(ren)

NJ:  Is your reputation as a writer important to you, OR might we look up one day and find that you are in a Twitter brawl with someone?

Kacey:  My reputation on Twitter and everywhere else is crucial to me!

NJ:  Kacey, I’m so happy to hear that.  Good for you!  Now, in your opinion, what is the biggest difference between the writers you see today around social media, versus the writers of old?

Kacey:  Freedom and opportunities! I mean, anyone can write an publish something today. Furthermore, we can write whatever we like or want (until it’s , which was certainly not the case during the Victorian era, especially / women

NJ:  Do you value professionalism in the literary arena and worry that the lack thereof makes it harder for those of us who wish to be taken seriously in this business? Or, does the unprofessional behavior of some around social media not bother you at all?

Kacey:  I think that what is fabulous today is precisely that thanks to the new technologies, everyone can try and do what she or he wants. Success belongs to the amount of love and energy you put in doing and supporting something. Today’s world is much less elitist and way more democratic, and this is good!

NJ:  Do you appreciate honesty regarding your writing because you know that only honest feedback allows you to grow as a writer, or are you one of those who would prefer that others lie to you and tell you only what they know you want to hear?

Kacey:  Honesty is crucial!

NJ:  Do you blog about any specific topics or are you a random-topic-blogger?
